Children’s Water Festival

Each year, the Lakeshore Committee proudly organizes the Children’s Water Festival, a much-anticipated field trip for Grade 5 students from across the Sioux Lookout area including Lac Seul First Nation schools. Held at Cedar Bay, this hands-on learning experience brings together students, educators, Elders, and community partners for a day dedicated to celebrating and understanding the importance of water.
The festival is a true community effort. With the support of dedicated volunteers and local organizations, students rotate through engaging activity stations that explore traditional teachings, water conservation, protection, and science.. These interactive sessions are designed to deepen students’ respect for water while building knowledge about its vital role in our environment and daily lives.
For many students, the Children’s Water Festival is a highlight of the school year—an opportunity to learn outside the classroom, connect with their community, and gain a deeper appreciation for the natural resources that surround them.
Financial and in-kind support for the Water Festival is provided by the Salvation Army Thrift Store, Fresh Market Foods , Kenora Patricia District School Board, Obishikokang Education Authority, Ministry of Natural Resources, IISD Experimental Lakes Area and the Nishnawbe-Gamik Friendship Centre.
