Trail Etiquette

Help protect our grooming and keep everyone safe and smiling.

🛡️ Respect the grooming

Ski only on groomed lanes. No walking, snowshoeing, or fat-biking on tracks when snow is present. Step over classic tracks.

❄️ Fix ruts & falls

If you leave deep ruts or divots, please smooth them out for the next skier—especially on corners and hills.

⏱️ Right-of-way & passing

Keep right on two-way trails. Downhill skiers have priority. Call “Track!” or “On your left/right!” to pass; move aside safely.

🌡️ Cold-weather courtesy

Keep breaks short on very cold days; yield space to lessons and youth groups to reduce waiting.

🗺️ Follow signs & directions

Obey one-way sections (e.g., Hilly). Respect closures and caution signs. Stop well off trail and avoid blind corners.

👥 Headphones & lessons

Use low volume. Give wide berth to Jackrabbits and coached sessions; follow marshal directions during events.

Dogs & Multi-Use

🐾 Dog-Friendly Trail (winter)

  • Dogs are permitted only on the signed Dog-Friendly Trail when snow-covered.

  • Leash at trailheads; keep dogs under voice control at all times; pick up and pack out waste.

  • No dogs on the Golf Course loop or racing/classic tracks when groomed.

⚠️ Snowmobile crossings

Nearby OFSC trails may cross or run adjacent to ski routes. Never ski on snowmobile trails and use caution at crossings.

Safety Essentials

🧥 Dress & weather

Use moisture-wicking layers (base/mid/shell), warm hat/buff, mitts. Avoid cotton. Watch for frost-nip and frostbite.

🗺️ Stay on signed trails

Expect ice under fresh snow and soft corners after warmups. Do not venture onto lakes/ice from ski trails.

🗓️ Plan your outing

Check conditions, avoid skiing alone in extreme cold or after dark, and share your route & return time with someone.

⛷️ Hills & speed control

Descend single-file, leave space, and keep speed within control—especially on the Hilly one-way section.

🎒 Carry a small kit

Phone, ID, whistle, water, snack, simple repair (basket/strap), and a foil blanket.

🆘 Emergencies

Dial 911. Provide the loop name and nearest junction. Keep the person warm/dry and move off trail.

Grooming & Operations

Volunteer-run; frequency depends on snowfall, temperature, and equipment.

What to expect

  • After large storms, priority loops may be groomed first; some tracks remain soft for 24–48 hours.

  • Please avoid skiing during active grooming and don’t block groomer access at trailheads.

  • Watch Facebook for partial openings, windfall clearance, or equipment updates.

Support the trails

Memberships and day passes fund fuel, parts, signage, and grooming time.

Parking & Facilities

Cedar Bay trailhead

  • Do not block plow piles, groomer lanes, or emergency access.

  • Pack out all garbage. Use warming areas only as posted.

Golf Course trailhead

  • Respect winter rules and any shared-use signage posted by the club.

  • Watch exposure and wind chill on open fairways.
